Above was the shopping list (I think), and below is where the event was celebrated amongst a small gathering of Swedes. Hannes and I were granted "honorary Swedish status" for the evening so that we might attend this important cultural event.
This holiday celebrates the summer solstice - and is considered one of the most important holidays of the year. Though this is celebrated in many countries around Europe, apparently Sweden is known for celebrating this day in their own unique way.
Nobody's ever looked so good peeling potatoes as Hannes did that day. :-)
All in preparation for the traditional foods normally consumed on this holiday. Amongst the potatoes are pork, I think a certain type of fish, various fruits.... and lots of alcohol.
Our miniature maypole (Midsommarstång)... with dancers performing the traditional "frog dance" (Små grodorna).
The proud chef cooking some pork on a grill that was much too small to achieve its purpose. :-)
She's making a floral head wreath with the tiny little flowers that were growing in the yard...
Though the people that hosted this party were renting their house, there was a herd of sheep running around the property throughout the evening... a first for me (amongst many that night)...
